Eres Holz
Eres Holz (b. 1977 in Rechovot, near Tel Aviv) is an internationally sought-after composer, known for the intensity of his sonic language and the emotional depth of his works. His music addresses existential questions of human existence, blending algorithmic processes with expanded sonorities through live electronics.
He studied composition with Ruben Seroussi at the Buchmann–Mehta School of Music in Tel Aviv, and later with Hanspeter Kyburz and Wolfgang Heiniger at the
Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. Since 2008 he has been a lecturer in Algorithmic Composition, and since 2019 artistic project leader for music and multimedia at Hanns Eisler. He is also active as an educator and juror, including for the Bundeswettbewerb Jugend komponiert and the Berlin Senate.
Holz has received numerous awards and scholarships. In 2005, 2008, and 2010, he won prizes in Composition at the Hanns-Eisler-Preis for composition and interpretation of contemporary music. He received Berlin Senate composition scholarships in 2013, 2014, and 2015, and in 2012 a residency grant at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. In 2014 his composition Vier Schatten for brass quintet won the Carl von Ossietzky Composition Prize. In 2017 he was Composer in Residence at
Deutschlandfunk and Kunst-Station Sankt Peter in Cologne.
His recordings include Klangrede (Bastille Musique), Touching Universes (OPUS Klassik-nominated, Neos), and
DEATH (Neos).
His works are performed at international platforms and festivals for new music, including the Traiettorie Festival (Parma), Gare du Nord (Basel), Konzerthaus Vienna, Impuls Festival (Graz), Tonedmelisma (Istanbul), Ultraschall (Berlin, RBB), Ars Nova (SWR), Südseite nachts – Musik der Jahrhunderte (Stuttgart), TonLagen (Hellerau), Forum neuer Musik (DLF, Cologne), Klangwerkstatt Berlin, ZKM (Karlsruhe), Unerhörte Musik (Berlin), Impuls Festival Saxony-Anhalt, Staatsoper at the Schiller Theater (Berlin), Konzerthaus Berlin, ZeitGenuss (Karlsruhe), Podium Worpswede e.V., PODIUM Esslingen, Theater und Musik Ahrensburg e.V., and Totally-Trumpet (Academy of the Arts Berlin).
